Default Stripped header stud! I F**ked up someone help?

Yep, stupid A** mistake,Installed header, torqued down the studs... started car.. vibration noise, started re-torquing but the car got hot so ... strrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiip goes one of the studs...

Today I went to the dealer and picked up the stud to replace it since it didn't completely break off I thought I was going to be able to save it but to no avail. PB balsted it, tapped lightly, started unscrewing the stripped stud and half of it is left inside so I'm fuked...

If anybody could come over on sunday to my house and help me fix this I'll pay you lmk plz I need help.

Check my for sale thread you could take home something from there OR name your price keep it reasonable.

I'm located in the 818 Burbank/Glendale area

how deep is the broken part in there? there's an exhaust shop in whittier my work deals with that takes out stripped/broken studs fairly often since it happens all the time. it would depend how much metal's sticking out.

The stud intself screws about a half an inch into the head and half of that is inside so none of it is sticking out anylonger. The piece is inside the threads now.

I could make the drive to whittier.. are you guys available sunday? And what's the cost look like for somethign lke this and how long will it take?

Ok I'll try to give him a call thx for the quick replies

I've read about drilling out the piece then enlarging the hole one size up but I don't want to mess with it any more I just want to fix it and move on.

I can't drive it though. It sounds like I have a drag car. The engine is ridiculously loud because I think it's the exhaust air leaking out. It sounds like a huge airplane intake sucking in all the air in the universe. Just loud.

I'm going to also try installing the stock header tomorrow and see if that helps in the meantime... I hate when sh*t like this happens.

it really shouldn't be that loud. are you sure you tightened the other ones all the way? my friend had one nut that was completely missing and he didn't even know until we were switching out the header. also you're using a gasket right?

Yeah there's a gasket. I just can't imagine it woudl be anything else.

There is one thing. I haven't been able to get my o2 sensor out of my stock header because it's on so tight there's no way of loosening it so the header I installed has just a hole there. But still, I wouldn't think that hole would make all that noise but ofcourse it could be... It specifically sounds like it's coming from the front though and seeping through causing it to whisp so loud. I swear it sounds like drag cams loping w/o the idle. Just obnoxious when you give it gas I can't drive it people look like WTH?

You know what, your right. If having 2 bolts missing was fine it has to be that... thanks man atleast there's some relief, I hate when sh*t goes wrong with my car. I'm goign to install the stock header tomorrow until I figure out the stripped stud thing.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies, if anybody has the tools and is still down to help me fix this the deal this is still on the table. LMK
