VC Breather Question
This weekend i plan to install a breather on my vc and cap off the current vacuum line from my aem cai to the vc. I currently have a catch can (baffled) between the pcv valve and the im. Can anyone who currently has a breather on the vc recommend a size and type of filter to get, which will fit the oem bung and handle the heat? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Below is a pic. of my current setup.

I'd suggest a K&N breather filter from eBay or whatever site you like. Mine fits right onto the H23 valve cover nipple without clamps or anything
Thanks man, thats what i was wondering. Whether i need a clamp type arrangement or if i just get one which fits flush with the existing oem nipple.
Maybe next time I'll just so a double catch can setup. Because it WILL blow oil out the fresh air side of the PCV system during high RPMs.

Well i know some blow-by will come out of the breather, however, my prelude is a daily driver and i dont give it heaps of throttle too often, so hopefully i wont get much oily residue in the engine bay. If i get a bit i dont mind, i give the engine bay a bit of a clean everytime i wash the car, so i'll just clean off any mess. I'll just rack up a few K's and see whats happening under the bonnet every so often.

Sounds like you had other problems
I never get any oil from my breather filter...ever.
Can't see the pics BlackCatt

Here are the pics again all, hope it works this time
. I am not great with computers

This is the filter i got. Part no. 62-1320 for those who are considering getting one. A carbon fiber top one is also available Part no. 62-1570. I went for K&N cause they are good quality and i want it to last in the long haul.

I put in a new coolant line once i got rid of the old stuff.

While i was at it i got rid of the screw clamps on my catch can setup and replaced them with oem style spring clamps, better all around grip and looks neater too.

Made a custom plug for the pipe on the cai.

Oiled the filter, ready to go.

Put the plug in, and put the breather on.

My finished PCV setup.
Hawkze_2.3: Good to know you havent had any oil residue probs
, in the research i did before i went ahead with the breather, no one metioned any probs except some will really high hp builds and turbos.
In the future, when i have plenty of spare time i am planning to take of the im and give it a thorough clean, and also take off the vc and strip the paint and give it a fresh coat. Given i plan to have this prelude when i am a really old man, i'm in no rush.

, i finally managed to get a computer to do what i wanted it to do. Re: the breather. Its part of the pcv system. Basically fresh air comes into the crankcase via the filter, then the pcv valve at the other end of the valve cover draws the blowby gas through the oil catch can, to filter out as much oil as possible, before it then goes back to the intake manifold. Putting a breather on means that during high rpms when pressure is high no blowby can go back to the cai and then into the im that way. Plus all the air the cai is taking in goes solely to the throttle body. Blowby deposits a lot of carbon and crud inside your im decreasing performance over time plus it mixes with the air fuel mixture. Having a catch can helps to keep the engine cleaner. In 6 months i collected 125mL of black oil in my catch can and that was before i put a baffle in. I am going to see how much i get out in the next six months with the baffle now inside. Hope that explains it for you. If your still unsure there are heaps of archived threads on this topic, just press search in the top right corner of your screen and your off. Update: I clocked up 3500 kms in the last couple of weeks, been doing a bit of travel, love cruising in the lude on big runs
. Anyway i have had no probs at all with any oil residue coming back through the breather, and i have given her a fair bit of throttle on a number of occassions. Just wanted those considering a breather to know that reverse blowby on a stock motor with minor mods aint going to be a problem.
Put the prelude in with my mechanic this week, doing a major service, new timing belt etc, my water pump has also been starting to leak so hes putting in a new one. Also replacing two cracked boots on the front steering rack. Will be good to get her back all fixed up.
