Default Where to find a decent 2.5" catalytic converter?

I'm running a megan racing header & downpipe, oem cat, and 2.5" mandrel bent cat-back exhaust on my '93 Si(jdm h22a)...with a twin-loop muffler.

The downpipe collector(i think that's what it's called), and the cat are restricting flow. I can have the downpipe changed to 2.5" from 2" or whatever it is now. I just need a 2.5" cat to finish the job.

Where can I find one? Preferably same length as the oem cat, just in 2.5".

Another question came to mind as I was typing this post...what about a test pipe? What would be the pros and cons of using one in place of a cat? Is there some way to make it look like a cat so I can pass inspection, if I go that route?

I'm running a jdm h22a with i/h/e on a mild temp tune, if that helps to answer my questions. Thanks for reading.

I bought a Magnaflow/Carsound cat off eBay maybe 2 years ago and had it welded in, along with a 2.5" collector no complaints

Was it the same length as your oem cat?

I was hoping to have keep all my exhaust components around the same length as the oem components, just in case I never change my mind down the road or something. If I sell this current exhaust or any parts of it, another prelude owner could install without modifying anything.

Almost exactly. Adding the flanges makes up for the difference

I found this one using froogle.com to search for " 2.5" catalytic converter ".

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000COTI7U

Seems like this one would do the job I need it to do.

So does posting that link mean no-go on the link I posted?

I'm not looking for anything fancy, and I can make up for cat length being too long or too short when I get my downpipe modified. Don't necessarily have to stick to the "oem specs" I mentioned in an earlier post.

Looks fine to me. I would just measure the length of the OEM cat, cut the flanges off, then weld them onto the new one. That way you can still use OEM donut gaskets which are cheap and easy to find.

When I had the local exhaust shop install my cat, it was because the flanges had the studs welded to them and labor was cheaper if they cut the flanges off. Oh, they attached my downpipe and cat-back to the cat using fkn reducers. Pissed me off like you wouldn't believe, but then again this is backwoods country and they just don't understand the import world.

When I take my header in to get it modified, I'm having the same guy do the cat as well. Using flanges for everything, will be a clean install because he actually knows what he's doing...not like the shop I took my car to.

Same here, I opted for all bolt on so I could remove and install everything myself with minimal work. All the guys at the local shop are nothing but alcoholics that do such shabby work. They get the job done, but it's so ragged you have to go back at least 2 more times to fix the leaks. Wish I had a good welding machine and the skills to use it. The possibilities would be endless!

I belive the length of the stock cat is 13 5/8" but dont hold me to it. And just a lil tip, dont order your cat with flanges from kteller. I spoke with them several times to ensure that they would include the correct flanges for the lude. They assured me it would be correct. Well when I got it it didnt have the correct flang so I had to bring it to a muffler shop and have the install my cat back and everything whice cost me $164, and I had to pay for flanges.

Kteller= in my opinion. Only b//c I talked to them so many times to insure it would be correct.

It looks like I'll be ordering the cat from the amazon link I posted.

Kronn 98SH; The link you posted keeps bringing me to http://www.ebaymotors.com, instead of an item listing page.

You or your computer did something wrong, the link works perfectly. Anyway, to get around the mistake, simply open ebay and search for magnaflow, then narrow the results down to catalytic converters. There are 4307 items found. You can narrow it down further by simply searching for the model # you want.

So far the Magnaflow 53006 is cheaper on Amazon.com, with a price of $47. It's the basic 2.5" in/out flangeless cat with no o2 bung or air port.

Cheapest on eBay is $65.
