Car is not catching the gear, dont know whats wrong and need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont know whats wrong with my 96 ls(non-vtec), everytime im into a gear and i press the gas kind of fast, the car will go but it is kind of like half that im revving my engine and half the car goes, its weird...i guess the only words i can describe it as if the engine is trying to catch the gear...i dont have much problem if i accelerate slowly, but its when i try to accelarate i guess normally or a little faster it does it (the rev meter just goes up crazy).
My car use to do that sometimes in the past but very very often...but yesterday i ran into a pot hole and my car is low, so i dont know if that damaged my cat-back exhuast system or what. Could anyone help me?????

kinda sounds like maybe you clutch is slipping, like it worn out and its not grabbing against the fly wheel like it should. if the exhaust was clogged in any way you wouldnt be able to get up in the higher rpms. with out driving it, it would be hard to say
So... what you are saying, is that the engine is rotating normally, but you don't seem to be accelerating like you normally would? This definately sounds like a slipping clutch. How many miles are on the car and is it the original clutch?
the car has about 206,000miles on it, BoSox46GSr: yes thats exactly whats happening...but it was doing that much at all before, but yesterday i ran into a pot hole and i scrapped the ground pretty bad...could it be anything else???

I highly doubt that it would cause your clutch to slip. I guess you could have knocked something loose, but you'd probably have more of a problem than you have now. I'd say put in a new clutch and you'll be fine.

it did it a few times b4 but it harldy ever happened but now ever since yesterday hitting the pot hole i think i damaged something from the bottom, and it does it everytime now...only thing i can think of is the exhaust system but i dont think that would cause the car to accelerate like that.

actually i think it is the clutch, cuz when i was stuck in the pot hole and i was trying to get out of it and i put the car in reverse and i had to give alot of gas and i was hold the clutch half way to get of it, and when i got out i got out of my car to see if it damaged anything no, but i think i smelled my clutch burned or maybe it was the gas i gave.
Deff sounds like a clutch problem. If ur going to drive it just be easy on it, dont beat it. I would be thinking about doing a clutch and a flywheel re-surface in the near future.
my friend had a problem like this.. but it wasnt his clutch.. his car was bogging for some reason...and he also has a vaccum leak too =/...he rev the crap out of his car too and it goes no where

He didn't say it was bogging, he basically said his clutch was slipping. I didn't realize you got stuck in the damn hole... 100% positive it's your clutch.

dont resurface your fly wheel just clean it up , replace it if its all blue and purple it got that way from heating it up... and yes you can still drive it just eventually it will completly **** out
