Default Having a few problems with my Gen 3

Motor: b18c1 complete swap.
Car: 98 GS

I'm getting a rhythmic chatter on idle. It goes away when I press the clutch down. However, it comes back when I put it in gear and start accelerating, except it sounds faster to where it's no longer rhythmic, just constant. It goes away again when accelerating above 4 grand and comes back yet again when I let off of the gas when in gear.

During the swap, I was cheap and i used the Exedy organic clutch/pressure plate and 8lb. flywheel off of my previous LSVTEC setup (LS tranny). The only thing new was the throwout bearing. I also used the slave cylinder off the LS block if that matters. The one that came with the GSR was stuck closed.

The other problem I'm getting is a code p1337 (uber leet code). We checked it out and apparently it's "CSF sensor no signal" or "Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1337: No signal in the Crankshaft Speed Fluctuation (CKF) sensor circuit".

Any help is appreciated.

I don't know much about diagnosing clutch problems, but I did have a chatter sound in my transmission that when it would be in neutral just sitting and idling it would chatter and then when I pushed the clutch in it would go away, and it would make the noise like you said when I would drive too, but mine was a bad main shaft bearing in the tranny case (my mechanic and I narrowed it down to this). But I know there are bearings in the clutch too that might possibly cause something like this to happen, although as far as I know, I would think that if it was your clutch it would make the sound when your clutch was pushed in, not when it was out.

hm. you've got a good point there. i was thinking bearings too, but i was hoping it wouldn't be that. how much was it to replace yours?

vietnamezerice: the motor's a 96 obd2

i would prolly say your throwout bearing is junk and or the pilot bearing i had the same prob in my civic and it was a bad throwout bearing and i even put a new one on i would check that before u ripp apart the transmission

I'm having the same problem with my GSR engine. It's going to be one of three things:

Main shaft bearing or throwout bearing

or POSSIBLY a broken finger on your clutch.

since you have that CEL code doesn't that mean something's wrong with your crank position sensor near the oil pump?

yeah it's probably not wired right. the car's running fine though, but i'm guessing it's running off some other sensor to sense engine speed. i definitely need to get that figured out. time is limited

i called acura today and they said it was the throwout bearing and pilot bearing causing the problems. i thought i might as well change the clutch and fly while i'm at it. any chance they're right??

i think that if it's by any chance your throwout bearing, it will constantly make noise as long as you're off the clutch... i think they're just trying to make a quick buck on you... have you found out why you have the code from the CEL?

no, not yet. i'll have time next week to check it out. i'm hoping it's just a wiring issue from the swap. by the way, it does make noise when i'm off the clutch. when i press it down, that's when it goes away, but as long as i'm off of it, it's chattering.
