Jay Leno's 1964 Honda SM600 - video
Thats a really nice car.
The reason it can rev to 9500 rpm is the fact that the engines are so tiny. Theres so little moving mass. In muscle cars, theres alot more moving mass. Because of this, they cant rev as high. And 4000 rpm is a bit on the low side. The 390 in our car red lines at 7500-8000. Of course this isnt stock. stock was 6000. Its also roughly 6700 cc's. much more then 606.
And one more thing.
Why does it matter where the red line is? Its all in where the horsepower curve is. In a honda, its at a much higher rpm, where as a muscle car its at a much lower rpm. Id like to have my power right away at the lower rpm instead of waiting for it to kick in like v-taak. Just my 2 cents

Did you hear when Jay said this engine has no oil pump? It doesn't need one when the crank is on roller bearings.
Honda was in the motorcycle business and wanted to get up to speed damn quick in the car business. They figured that F1 was the place to learn the most about car engines and so they built the early S series with a scaled down F1 engine.

That was a greeaaaattttt video. Jay leno is the man, truly a car guy, loves all cars. Really cool to hear that car, to me it didn't sound too different from the honda twin cams of the late eighties and nineties. Really nicely done resto, funny to see honda with that damn teal/blue even all the way back then.
