should i take precautions?? *pic*
i just bought a filthy y8 manifold, its off the car, its dirty as hell inside and out, do i tape the electrical connectors and/or hose holes up, or just degrease and pressure wash and let dry??
If you plan on degreasing it, then tape off all the sensors and such. Its really not that big of a deal. Just be careful not to get things too wet, even though chances are they will still work...

You might try 'Carbon-Off!'...

yea, what he said. since it's off the car just unbolt the tb, remove the fuel rail, injectors, injector seals, assorted sensors, and then get all the vaccum and coolant lines outta the way. i did this to clean and paint an old d-series intake that i have. don't need it now obviously, but i was bored and figured maybe i can sell it some day. maybe it'll inspire you lol. i tried like hell to clean the fuel rail but to no avail. i think i may just pull it back off, then sand and spray it maybe gloss or flat black.

When I took mine out of my car, I took ALL sensors off, then used carb cleaner, then pressure wash, then carb cleaner again, then pressure wash. It was so clean you could use it as a beer bong. TAKE THE SENSORS/EVERYTHING OFF OF IT! You don't want to risk damaging any of the sensors.
Seafoam Deep Creep is awesome for cleaning the inside. Just give it a good soaking, let it sit a few mins, and blow it out with air (just make sure you dont blast the black crud all over something that matters
simple solution to not getting yoru sensors wet, is spray them down with WD40 after you get done washing it all down.
the WD in WD40 stands for water displacement.

its in a can. its called rustoleum charcoal gloss metallic.
the can looks like just like this. the one in the link is actually black night metallic but you get the idea. http://www.levelsixtynine.com/goby/DSC05032.JPG
i cleaned it with soap and simple green. then soaked it in hot sudsy water for an hour or so. let it dry. then primed it with normal grey sandable automotive primer. and then after drying again, i sprayed the rustoleum stuff.

it wont mess up the sensors, as long as it is all dry before you hook it all up. anytime i pressure wash anything, i let it sit outside for a while, then before i hook it back up, i usually take a hair drier and go over all the sensors just to be safe.
