Default Stripped Bolt, Need some Advice

I stripped one of the bolts that holds the passenger seat down and also the inside where the bold screws on. What do i do now? I need to fix this soon.

Ride on three bolts or take it to get retapped at a machine shop then get a new bolt.

drill out the stripped bolt .. then redrill a new hole and use a larger bolt in the new hole

According to the OP, the bolt and the threads in the floorboard are stripped. There is no bolt necessary to drill out.

If this is the case, get yourself a m10 x 1.25 tap, a tap handle, and try to re-thread the floorboard. Then buy a new m10 x 1.25 bolt of identical length or new OEM bolt and see if it'll catch.

Otherwise....Consider looking for the next size up in a SAE STANDARD thread, pick up a bolt and tap in that thread pitch, and do the same as I previously stated.

Wow. I bet you'd change your response if you got into a nasty accident with only 3 bolts holding your seat in. I'm not saying your seat would fly out from
the car....but just think about what the purpose of bolting the seat in four points onto the floorboard is....

I'm pretty sure he was joking....but I agree with the rest of them drill and tap....and next time use the proper tools and a torque wrench

I have a real funny feeling that he wasn't joking with his response..... I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I've thought about the idea of having only 3 bolts holding in a seat for under a minute and still stand behind my initial response. Driving around with only 3 bolts holding the seat in will only be a concern if the driver was involved in an accident. It wont change how the car drives, feels, or responds under normal driving conditions. But in the event of an accident, that one missing bolt could be the difference between walking away from the accident or being carried to the hospital in the back of an ambulance.

Keep in mind, I'm not opposing your statement regarding load or force on the bolts under everyday driving conditions. No one can predict when an accident will happen or control what happens during one.

whatever you do, get it fixed properly. accidents happen to anyone, at anytime, without warning. take it to a machine shop and call it a day. don't die.
