Inaccurate Tachometers?

From what I read, OEM tachs are inaccurate. People are saying their fuel cut is not until an indicated 9000 rpm. Well, in my ITR, my fuel cut is an indicated 8600 rpm.
Am I just one of few lucky ones with an accurate tach? Or are they the few unlucky ones with an inaccurate tach? Not too many Canadian ITR owners complain of this, maybe it is just a USDM thing?

This question might sound stupid, but hey, I am here to learn.
The fuel will stop going to the engine when the needle of the tachometer went to a certain point or is there another sensor that measures engine rpm stops it?
Thanks in advance!

Your ECU is designed at 8600 rpm's to stop giving it fuel as a safety precaution to not float a valve and damage the engine. It is there for your sake should you choose to forget to shift in a particular gear. Feel free to add anything else that i missed fellow HT'ers!
Thanks for the answer!
But then what controls the tachometer?
Why don't the car manufacturer make the tachometer take the rpm information from the ECU, so everything will be accurate and all of us should have the same indicated fuel cut off?

My tachometer is off a little bit too! I can shift at 8900-9000rpms on my tach. Most accurate tachometer I've seen is the one on the Apex VAFC. I heard it is more accurate because it plugs directly into the ECU, rather than through various connectors like the gauge cluster tach?

my tach indicates 9500 when my shift light comes on, at 8600rpm! if i tag the limiter at 9k it is way over 10, how's that for a junk tach?

my tach is off too, but really I don't care all that much- I know when to shift my car; the numbers really don't mean anything.
