my vtec currently engages at 5700 RPMS, im about to install the v-afc and take it for a dynotune

now im just wondering wheres a good ball park figure to lower vtec engagement too? i have heard 5,000RPMS yeilded the best gains, what are some of your setups as im curious

On a GSR I would start lower than that and then work your way up. Try may be 4500rpm!

 

If you're looking to make more midrange, the tuner can adjust the Vtec engagement along with the fuel curve to make more power earlier. It really depens on what mods you have on your motor. I only strive for top end power/speed, so all of my mods reflect that 4-1 header, Skunk2 intake mani, etc. Just talk to your tuner, and let them know what you're looking for.

 

do it yourself, those units are very user friendly

 

i had mine set at 4200 when i had my b16 teg... it seemed to work out pretty nice if you plan to like drive your car around alot just remember to raise it so youre not always in vtec driving through town and on the freeway

 

all i have is i/e, hopefully after i pay some bills ill get a skunk2 IM and an ITR intake cam asap, but for now 5700 is way to high using the dual stage mani and gsr cams, i guess well start pre 5000 and work it up

When I first started out, I was using exh/header/filter and VAFC w/stock intake mani, I set the Vtec crossover at 5200 RPM's, right near the time that the secondaries opened up. I was using a rich computer, so I leaned it on the bottom and in the middle, kinda rich up top, and it worked very well.

from the dynos on stock gsr and skunk2 intake 1.8l blocks, seem to like 4900-5200rpm best...anything less will not produce smooth power, anything higher will produce power losses....

I heard a good way to tune your vtec switchover point is to do a dyno run w/ it set at like 9k, then w/ it set as low as it can go. this effectivly gives you a plot of both cams seperatly. then set the switchover to where the two plots intersect, so that you get the most power acros the band.
