Default B20Vtec - Stock bottom B20z

I've heard that there is piston to valve cleareance issues and I've heard there isn't. So my question is who has run a stock bottom end B20 with a Vtec and what kind of power did you make. This is my daily so thats why I can't do the whole RSmachine pistons.

Any help or advice is apperiated.

Thanks,
Joe

i use a 4 layer custom OEM head gasket cut for 84.5mm pistons. the RS ITR pistons are perfect for daily driving and they make great power to b00t

No I just don't wanna have to tear the bottom end apart because i'm gonna do this in my apartment parking lot. I'm gonna leave the motor in the car.

It depends on which cams/cam gear adjustment will be used in the set-up. Stock b16 or GSR cams will be fine with no valve relief cuts necessary. People have claimed to use CTR/ITR cams with un-cut reliefs with cam gears zeroed out but I would def. check P2V clearance before running that combo. Good luck with your build.

*edit* The info above applies if the head has not been milled or block decked.

With JUN 3's and a GSR head you will have problems, trust me.

With ctr cams more than likely your valves ill tap the pistons if you dont cut the reliefs. It happened to me on my ls v.

I've run a B20Z with CTR/ITR cams.

Block not decked, head not milled, factory cam gears

no issues at all with the setup.

Don't really have enough money for a new motor thats why I'm doing the frank motor. I'll prolly just mill the head and leave it like that. One last question P72 oe PR3 head?

Which head you choose is a personal opinion. They both flow really similar, not enough to justify one or the other. The GSR has a smaller combustion chamber design and will yield a higher compression than the b16 head. I say just use whichever you find at the best price/condition.
