Hi,

I am gonna change the spark plugs for my 1999 Accord V6 (J30A1). I am wondering if I should choose the OEM NGK spark plugs or the Bosch Platinum+4 ? The NGK plugs are twice priced than Bosch. I appreciate much if you experienced guys can give some recommendations.

I am doing the same for my 1993 Accord EX. Which NGK is best spark plug for normal, street, grocery getter, freeway cruiser, performance.

NGK IX series
NGK V Power

I like the V powers that is what I use.

 

Thanks I just looked at all of these spark plugs on the NGK page and they are very different. V Power it is for my Accord. I use the Iridium for my motorcycle though did not know why until today. Thanks again.

V Power plugs work well, and I have no complaints even on several high horsepower builds.

i dont use bosch anything in my honda

 

NGK plugs all the way for just your everyday.

Never took the time to find out why. I just know from experience. They get poor gas mileage, misfire codes, and have even been known to run hot if a particular plug is used. They just aren't designed to work in a Honda. They'll work just fine in a brain dead American car, heck you could probably make you own and they would work.

 

good old cheap factory NGK spark plugs are more then enough.

 

To tell you the truth both are fine...

You aren't doing any force induction or anything that is really "demanding"

 

Bosch suck, used them once in my daily driver nissan and they soon gave me a sweet misfire which set off a cel light, changed back to NGK/ reset the code no problems since.

For my accord, NGK cheap copper plugs here is the only thing I use... did when i was stock, did when i was spraying the car, and do now boosted. Only thing different has been the heat range or course.

If your a stock or lightly mod'd n/a vehicle which I gather you are... in your application platinums will last you a little longer (which is why they are recommended) which might be worth it since a plug change in the v6 is not as easy as us i4's.

I guess some peoples milage will vary... I thought/have found them to be a decent plug, likely better or equal to Champion or AC delco? Have used the Platinum plus 4's, and platinum plus 2's in my accord as well as NGK coppers at various times throughout the last 6 years, and never had a misfire, blistered plug, or milage difference between any of them... Any plug will run hot if you put in the wrong heat range, and the misfire MAY have been something as simple as a loose plug wire?

Just saying... I believe NGK's have a better rep for a reason, and may well be a superior plug even if only by way of better quality control...

eh, the +2 and +4 are the cumbersome models of bosch;
but their regular copper and platinum plugs gave me NO problems...

only w/ the fancy designed plugs w/ redundant electrodes are a hit-or-miss

 

Bosch = garbage! I would stay away from iridium; sometimes they do funny things. I used NGK coppers or V-powers (also copper), and I change plugs every other oil change. They are cheap and fresh all the time. If you won't want to change them as often, go with platinum. Forget about plugs for 60k, and be happy. Iridium is a joke.

 

ive never had a problem iridiums ... and unless your having misfires [because its the wrong plugs] or you have a high performance vehicle you wont notice a difference between a regular plug and iridium ... i only use them because it gives me peace of mind
