Im new to Honda cars, how to adjust the idle??? pls help.
I am new to honda.. the idle of my honda civic EX (d16y8)has a low idle (700 rpm).. but when i press the gas pedal.. the idle stays at 1500 rpm or 2000.. then when i pull back the gas pedal (by my toes) the idle goes back to 700.
I have been adjusting the idle through the throttle cable.. I am stretching it, then tighten the bolt in the throttle cable? is that the correct way of adjusting the idle?
What could be the problem pls. help.. I already cleaned the throttle body..
By the way, what is the ideal rpm?
It doesnt have CEL.
pls. help.. i would greatly appreciate it guys..

I think there's a screw (see number 1 in the linked diagram) that you can adjust as well. I'd work the screw before adjusting the throttle cable

The idle speed setting varies depending on which transmission you have. Check your underhood label, should be there. However, manual I have says for USDM, M/T is 670 rpm plus/minus 50, A/T 700 plus/minus 50.
I have to admit that it does kinds sound like a mechanical issue, though, considering you can get the idle speed to drop back to normal by pulling on the accelerator. I think I would disconnect the throttle cable and see if I could smoothly move the throttle body sector/linkage without the cable attached... and then spend some time with some grease. Another recent thread was talking about something similar....you might want to look at : https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2390494 for more info on the throttle cable.
Good luck!

it should be relaxed, i wouldn't really increase the throttle if i were you, change the idle first.

my 97 5speed does the same. I adjusted the cable, but now Ive figured out that it just does that when it starts up. After 3 minutes of driving it goes down.

guys, i already solved it.. ITs a mistake to stretch the throttle cable.. its now relaxed. The idle goes back to normal after pressing the gas pedal.. thanks guys.. I hope next time if i have questions you have the advice.
