Dangit, did I ruin my piston?
Is this piston ruined? Could I raise it up and smooth it out again with a punch or grinder? The offending valve has been replaced, but I did not put the head on yet.
i would tape off the entire top section of the top end leave your self some sanding room and use various sanding paper to smooth it back out DO NOT USE A PUNCH OR A GRINDER lol you can crack it or make it worse, just sand it back out smooth and use a shop vac at the same to suck up stuff as you work
well it was not running when it happened. I did this turning the crank by hand. I've sanded it down pretty well and it looks almost good as new. I'll post pics once its cleaned up.

Seems all fine now... Another lesson: dont work too late and in a rush to finish, that's when dumb mistakes happen.
