you need a 98 or newer LS block, and a 98 or newer b series vtec head if you want to be legal. you can do whatever if you dont care.

To make it OBD2 You need:
obd2 b series crank gear.
b series crank postition sensor.
Probably going to need a knock sensor. (have the hole drilled and tapped before you install the head.. )
obd2 ecu..
obd2a: 96-99 gsr (for gsr head) p30 (96-97 del sol vtec)
obd2b: 99-00 civic si p2t

You're probably going to want obd2a, since your car is 98 (obd2a). youre going to reuse the stock harness i'd imagine. (cant use an integra harness), and modify it to fit.

Could also run obd2a to obd1 with a conversion harness.. and a p28 or p72
Thats recommended because you're going to need a tune.

You dont need a GSR head.. can use a b16 head. either will work.
You're going to need a vtec conversion kit.
Gotta tap and plug the head. Need an oil line for the head/vtec feed.

All Civic SI mounts
Axles, half shaft and shift linkage from civic si or 94-01 integra

b16b has only slightly higher torque numbers than the b16a..
i'd go GSR.. more torque..
you could also buy the b16b and sell the long block and use the tranny.. if it comes with one..
i like my ls vtec.. its low compression built for turbo..
its way faster than my b16a with CTR pistons, and skunk2 valve train..

If MD requires him to plug in for like an inspection, he'll need to be obd2. He can always use a conversion harness to run the p28, and just unplug the harness + p28 and run a stock obd2a p30 or whatever the del sol dohc vtec ecu is.

GET THE B16B! thats dirt cheap and is still faster than a gsr. Then later you can build yourself an lsvtec with that sick setup. Just get rid of the bottom block and use a built ls block. that **** will be a beast. or you can get an aftermarket crank and turn your b16b into a 1.8 or 2.0 liter motor.

This is all true! And if you have a real CTR engine in front of you and you know the milage or near mileage of the engine i would pick up the b16b man thats me though! And he is right if you are worried about emessions then make sure you stay obd2 and a USDM Delsol Vtec (dohc) is a p30 at least the obd1's are haha whatever get the ctr motor man
