91 accord is leaking coolant. HELP!!!
I drove home one day and i saw my hood smoking and my temp gauge almost to the red line. I checked and i was leaking coolant, BADLY. i put half a gallon of coolant directly to the radiator, then started it up again. and rolled off my garage. within 10 yards, i stopped and looked at the leak; it looked like a small waterfall!!!! the leak was coming from the left side of the motor (passenger side) just over the splash guard. the next day, to determine where the leak was, i put about half a gallon of water in the radiator, and let it run. However, the leak has turned reduced to drops rather than pints. I took off the splash guard and snooped around the bottom and just above the splash guard, i couldn't find the source until i saw a streak of coolant running down the transmission. Does anyone know where a common start of a coolant leak would be by that area? i checked the radiator and it was fine, and the two large hoses connecting the radiator and the engine (the ones under the distributor and the "U" hose) were good. And would it be safe to drive to a mehcanic?
