reusing used forged pistons. what should I pay close attention to?
I have had thses pistons for years. My friend gave them to me from his old b20vtec engine.
The origional engine that they were in had a rod bearing failure and scarred the crank after a few hundred miles. So he sold the rods and gave me the pistons. Up until now I didn't have any ententions to use these pistons other than paper weights how ever I may be building a motor in the next few months (trying my first one). So if I am going to use the pistons what should I look for as for "weaknesses or imperfections" in them? Should I order new rings aswell?
Thanks

If you are worried about them being cracked there is a spray that we use to find cracks in alum. It's a 2 part spray most race shops will have it on hand or know what to order to check for you.
If your worried about them being out of spec take them to a shop and have them measured against the stock specs from the piston manufacturer.

I am more worried about the warping and if there are hot spots on the pistons and how to tell.

1-take them to a machine shop to have them:
-cleaned
-inspected
-weighed
-measured
2-order new rings (this is mandatory, besides being a good suggestion)
3-order new wrist pin clips (I dont know what brand pistons you have or if they're sprial locks, or clips or what, but you need to order 4 sets of clips)
other than that, you should be good to go.
