Default Code 17 on a 91 Accord

I just want to make sure that what I tested with the VSS is correct. I dont have a manual in front of me for a 91 Accord only a 92-95 Civic.

Here is the deal. The speedo is not working, although, the VSS is plugged up. I checked and made sure that the harness connector is getting voltage to the sensor and it is, also the ground seems to check out fine.

When the connector plugged back into the sensor, Im not sure, but I think the sensor is supposed to read between 0-5 volts while spinning a wheel. I dont have any help or anything so what I did was take the sensor off the tranny, plug the connector to it, turned the ignition on, and just spin the sensor with a drill. Im getting some weird voltages. The wire is reading 12 volts right off the bat and when I spin the sensor its dropping down to around 5-6 volts. I dont think that is right?

Can someone back me up on this?

Wire color code:

Black = Ground
Yellow = +12V
Orange = 5V pulses (square wave on oscilloscope)

If the vss is good, the problem is in your speedometer.

Just went thru with this procedure and found the unit defective.
Went to the junkyard and got one, and all is well.

Cool, thanks...

I do believe the orange wire on this Accord is reading a constant 12 volt with the ignition on, once I spun the sensor the voltage would drop. Basically, the sensor is backwards from the way it should be. I did take the sensor apart and clean it up and look at it, I doubt that helped any at all.
