Ways to moisturize axle boots?
I was just under my car the other day and noticed that my axle boots are starting to look a little worn. No rips or grease splatter yet but just dry with a few little knicks here and there. I'm just wondering what anyone else has done when they notice this as well? I'm thinking of just lathering them down with wd-40 and making sure it soaks in but other than that I wouldn't know what to use. Any advice?
Well I may have answered my own question. I was reading around the s2k forums and someone recommended a silicone spray. Here is what i'm looking at http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/als.aspx. I Still would like some input from you guys though before I go and do this
i have heard that silicone spray will eventually harden rubber. we got stuff at toyota called sil-glide that is great on rubber and seals. i think honda has good stuff to called shin-etsu grease. but by lubing the boots, i would think that any sort of debris would stick to it.
303 Aerospace Protectant will work well. You can get it at any marine shop.
It even states that it can be used on CV boots on the product webpage:

sil-glide is the same stuff as silicone spray just not in areosol form. Silicone spray works great to soften old dry/hard rubber mounts and bushings. I've never used it in a moving application like a cv boot though so I can't voucher for the boot longevity. best bet if you are real worried is to reboot it or buy a new axle once it starts to crack.
