protections besides alarms..
fuel/starter kills of different types (passive)
Theres the autolok which locks down your pedals...but that does'nt stop them from breaking in, stealing your deck amp rims and taking off.
I personally like my pager, it gives me an added sense of security and relaxes my paranoia a bit, it can be added on to any alarm for about $90 USD and pages you when any zone becomes tripped (along with the tripped zone) they also give a good 3/4 mile range.

kill switcheS (yes plural).. not going to go into detail..
alarm w/ pager and various sensors.. but u said besides alarms.. so yeah..
Ultra club (by winner int) yeah I know they can saw the steering wheel.. I bought it years ago so might as well use it... its not even called Ultra club anymore.. they call it Club LX now... anyway I figure it takes SOME time to take it off and every second counts.. so maybe they'll move onto another target...
Autolock.. locks clutch or break...
i park mine in the garage.. turn off the opener to NOT receive signals while I'm home/overnite (use the lock out/vacation feature)... I also manually slide bolt/lock the garage at night or if I'm going on vacation... we have motion detector lights around the perimeter of our house.. and I also have armed response alarm/security/patrol company that monitors our house... and I'm also armed in case they don't get there fast enuff
I think my cars pretty safe at home.. its when I'm out I'm more concerned
gotta watch them theives and tow trucks

the thing to remember about any eletronic device installed in a car is the install, f you dont spring for the extra couple bucks to get it done right ou might be spending that came money getting your car out of the police inpoundafter its stolen i would suggest mouting the alarm NOT under the dash as an installer ive seen sooooooooo many integras and civics with there alarms just unpluged giving the person stealing the car a bypass from the starter kill its a pain to work on but at least you can give the theif a hard time out of cars that are easy to steal but there is almost nothing you can do about a "smash and grab" just remember if they want it bad enough they are going to try and take it

My car came with etched windows. Along with my compustar, the Club, and an immobilizer I feel pretty safe. But, like it was said, if they want it bad enough, they'll take it
just put kill switches on it, and alarm that goes off when tampered with and while youre at it ask the guy at the shop to put a device hooked up to ur ignition or fuel pump that kills the car when u press the remote on ur key chain.
