NOBBIE QUESTION : 1986 CRX SI
I saw a 86 Crx for sale.
This is what the guy told me about the car.
" It has a little over 141,000 miles on it. The main problem is a stuck and possible bent valve. I had it running the first of 2007. I was running it every few days while was checking the brakes. They needed some care after setting up for so long. The last time I started it the valve stuck."
Is fixing a stuck/bent valve easy?
How do you fix it?
I am by no means a car mechanic but hey they is always a time to learn.

if its stuck try some seafoam, get it at the parts store
if its bent you need to take the head off and get a shop manual to replace your bent valve.

Just fyi, most aftermarket and knowledge support is 88-91 (Gen2) CRX

If it's stuck open, and he's tried to start it then chances are that it's bent. If your not mechanically inclined you'll have to take it to a mechanic, and they'll probably charge you more then the price of the car to replace it.
Thanks I'll try the Seafoam thing but I might just get the head.
How much does that normally cost?

yeah a lot of people knock the 1st gen crx, and then i see 1st gen enthusiest build there crx if not just as good, better looking then 2nd gen. i mean if you love 2nd gen crx then thats cool but dont knock the 1st gen 'cause you never know there maybe a 1st gen out there sexier than your 2nd gen.
Valves do not get "stuck," they get bent when the timing belt breaks. It sounds like this guy snapped a timing belt, slipped a new one on and tried (but failed) to get away with a half-assed job.
If the car is clean (check real carefully for rust, specially under the car) and the price is cheap enough, it is not hard to over come a bent valve.

I'll see ur first gen.....and raise you......
(not my car....pic taken from Western NY HT meet thread)

These cars can deff be made to look sexy.....and they are certainly harder to come by all cleaned up and looking proper!
I remember I almost got a 1st gen. as my first car but the rents didn't want me to have such a small car as my first ride......

1st gen Integra engine/tranny is a cheap, easy upgrade. It would probably be cheaper than replacing a D15 head, if you are patient and read up on how to do it yourself. The write up is over on redpepperracing.
My 1st gen CRX

My 2nd gen CRX

I like 1st gens better. :D

I see yours and raise you.

Quick out of topic question. Why can't I put an avatar up and change my signature? I've been a memeber for more than a week now.
