so i have a ep3 and it slips out of third when in the low rpms just cruisin in the neighborhood and ****, but it also grinds really bad when around 5800 on the rpm...i dont know much about transmission so could someone please please tell me what i need to do to fix this..my guess is its something to do with the gear box or something....HELP!!! PLEASE!!

 

Could be a few things.

1. Countershaft or mainshaft bearing has a lot of play.
2. Synchronizer sleeve is beat to ****.
3. Gear is worn really, really badly.

You simply won't know until you get it pulled apart unfortunately.

p.s. And change/check the transmission fluid. Replace it if necessary and fill it up with the proper amount.

 

I WOULD PUT MY MONEY ON THE SYNCHRO!

 

# 2 possibly compounded by the gears "dogs" being round asd [freak]. The syncros usually hold up better than the selector sleeves

 

Honda/Acura has a Service Bulletin on the 3rd gear synchro hub assembly (updated part 3rd gear hub assembly) this is a pretty common thing for the gearbox, Go to your local dealer and see if you are still covered under warrany if not talk to the manager and see if you can get a Goodwill from Honda.
