I been having the idea of filling my rear side panels inside my 94 civic hatch with the yellow insulation you would find in your attic. Question is, I am not a professional when it comes to insulation, I tried searching but no luck, does anyone know if it's safe to put it in your car, I've herd it's not so good to breath in and was not sure if the material will leak into the cabin after I insulate it between my body of the car and the rear side panels. Thanks.

I am doing this to reduce road noise. I know there is other way around this, but wouldn't hurt to ask if the material is on hand and would not cost me much.

What other method do you guys think for reducing road noise that is affordable.

 

Find an old Caddy and pull the padding out from under the carpet. It kills sound and is cheap.

How cheap are we talking about and where do I go and get it?

 

Junkyards shouldn't charge you more than $10.00. Do you have a salvage type store in your area?

We've got this place where I am called NPS that takes all that crap that falls off of shipping trucks and sells it to the public, but the only downside is nobody knows what most of the crap is, so you have to know what you're looking for. I usually find dynamat in there for like $2.00 a box.

See if you've got one of these salvage stores around and go check it out, you might find some quality sound deadening material that was made for cars that's very inexpensive.

 

you do realize the home padding stuff is fiberglass right? tat stuff is going to make you itch if wind gets a hold of it some how

I think he's referring to the foam insulation, not the pink stuff.

 

I have junkyards, I probably will go check there. Is the padding underneath the carpet machine washable, because when I get it I'm pretty sure it's going to smell pretty foul.

 

Or you can get something like Ensolite. Adhesive sound deadener.
