Default 1999 Honda Accord Brake Problems NEED HELP PLEASE

Let me try to make a long story short. The other night I was going to change out the rotors and pads on the front disc brakes of my 99 accord lx 4cyl. I noticed that the lugs were kind of warm and the caliper was pretty warm as well, it had been sitting for about 1 hour or maybe a little less. I didn't think much about it. Well I got the new rotors installed along with the pads took it for a test drive and everything seemed fine. Well tonight I was out driving it I noticed a smell I didn't know what it was. When I got back to the house it was the front brakes. The lug nuts were so hot you couldn't touch them for a second with out getting burned. The rim felt fine as well as the tire. I called a friend and he told me jacking the car up and spin the tire and have someone stop and try to spin the tire right after they release the brake to make sure the caliper wasn't catching or holding. I did that and it spun like a champ. So I don't think it's the calipers catching. He mentioned something about a check valve when you push in the piston on the rotor. He said if you do it to quickly that it does something with that check valve. Do Hondas have that check valve? His next advice was to bleed the brakes and see if that check valve would reset itself. Have you guys heard of that? What else do you think could be causing the problem? Thanks for any help

brakes rely on friction to work, friction creates heat, which gets transferred to anything in direct contact with the rotor.

the smell is pretty normal for new brake pads. they are bedding in.

relax. it's normal.

I have had a few hondas now and I have had to change the brakes on every one. This is the only one where the brakes have gotten that hot or at least the lug nuts get steaming hot to where you can't touch them with out getting burned but the rim is just warm, which is good i'm assuming. I can still touch the rim but not the lugs. I have another 99 accord that I have used as a refrence and the lug nuts don't get nearly as hot. Also I have never smelled brakes like this before. How long will they take to wear in? I have about 100 miles on the new brakes now. Thanks for the help.

Let me tell you what I have learned....I have a 2000 EX coupe (3.0). I have replaced the front calipers, brake lines and now I am in the process of getting the anti lock unit for the car. My problem was major dragging but now it is not as evident. I also have found that although the Drivers side caliper seems to be dragging (not the passenger) that the caliper will release when I bleed the line from the unit or the master cyclider. Also as of late I have been checking to see if the caliper id dragging while on the road while at stop signs and such. The bracks seem to release when I shut the car off...My next move is to see if there is a way to adjust the power brakes....Good luck.

Do you feel maybe bleeding them will help out? They don't seem to be dragging that is the funny thing. I will have to do a really good check on them this weekend. I jacked the car up and spun them with no dragging. Both sides heat up. The rim is warm but not hot like the lug nuts. Everyone has told me that I shouldn't be able to touch the rim if they are dragging is this true? The lug nuts dovget really hot to where you can't touch them. Thanks for any help
