I have this exact same problem ... how do I check out the ground ... I can't find a good headlight wiring diagram

your ground for the head lights should be with that harness you dont need a wiring diagram just look at the harness and their should be a little box with a whole bunch of black wires those are all your grounds and you bolt that down to the chassis and to test the ground just use a DMM and it should read around .01 of a volt or so and if it reads higher then there is resistance and should probably reground or clean up grounding area GL man!
