Default Car was Attempted to be stolen, now having problems with mechanic/insurance. Please help

Hello everyone I have a 1998 Type R. I'm posting this because I'm in some trouble. About 2 weeks ago my car was attempted to be stolen, luckily we chased the kids off. The whole steering column was in shreds and my alarm system was cut. My Insurance company suggested a Auto Shop (bad decision) and I agreed to use them to put in a steering column. Well, after they finished the job, I picked my car up and the check engine light was on and the car was running extremely poor. The RPM meter was going up and down like I've never seen before, the car almost died everytime I shifted. About 2 blocks away, I parked the car and called a tow truck to have Acura dealer check it out. I didn't know what to think at this time because the car was running perfectly before the theft. The insurance company told me there could be a few reasons why this happened. Acura looked at my car, they said they were having trouble finding the problem because the ECU was aftermarket. So, my Insurance company agreed to pay for a factory ECU for Acura to diagnose the problem. Finally, today they called me and told me that the OS Censor for the cadillac converter needed to be replaced and the manifold Censor also needed to be replaced. So, my question is, my car was running perfectly before this theft.. I have a strong feeling my car is messed up because they did a poor job on the installation of the steering column and whatever else they had to do. I just feel like the first auto shop didn't know what they were doing because the stereo wasn't working and the key got stuck when they were trying to fix my car. Like I said before, my car was running in almost perfect condition before the theft, and now it's running like crap. If anyone could give me some thought or advice I would greatly appreciate it. Also, the Insurance company said they will not cover the censors because they don't feel like this happened because of the installation or theft. Was this a misdiagnosis from Acura? or could this actually be from the theft or installation? Sorry for the long post. This boggles my mind. Thank you.

why was the ecu aftermarket? did you change it?

sounds like a misdisgnosis, or the dealer trying to milk you. go take it for another test drive see how it feels, maybe the ecu fixed the problem? there's no way your o2 sensors caused the problem

good luck

I'm wondering why this happened after my car was running in perfect condition after the Attempted theft/installation. Stressful!

an o2 sensor can cause that kind of problem espically when you mix it with the bad map sensor. they may have accidently broke some wires on the instalation but i dont know how. take it back 2 the shop that did the repairs and demand they fix it becasue it ran fine before it came in.. hope this works out for you

Update: Since I'm working with my insurance company they are saying that it was very unlikely that it was caused by the Installation/Theft which is BS, so they are telling me to pay for deeper diagnosis if I choose to do so. The dealership says it could be wires but very unlikely, I just don't know what to think.. My car was running fine before this and not it's not.. Any advice?

Find a lawyer.
All we can tell you what should be done not what they are legally responsible for,and that's all that really matters, not our opinions.
