Default 1998 Type-R Stolen - Irvine, CA - Insurance Advice

Well after years of reading about other Type-Rs stolen...my time has finally come and my car is probably being stripped and parted as I type this.

My car was stolen sometime late last night or early morning from my apartment's underground, gated parking structure. I'm guessing this was planned out because it was a clean steal, no broken glass or anything around my parking spot. My car was Championship White (1998) and bone stock which seems rare these days. I actually took the Type-R stickers off so it wouldn't attract as much attention but that obviously didn't work. At one point I had the wing off as well but the car just didn't look right so I put that back on. If anyone in the Southern California area hears about some R parts please let me know but I'm not going to keep my fingers crossed.

The real reason I'm posting right now is because I wanted to ask the advice of those who have gone through what I'm going through when it comes time to deal with insurance. I have theft coverage with AAA and they will pay the "cash value" of the car if it is not retrieved. Since there is no Kelly Blue Book value for the car (not enough data) and I've really only seen a few stock 1998 ITRs in near perfect condition being sold in the last couple of years...does anyone know how they determine the cash value? The car had over 100k miles but was meticulously cared for and still ran and looked like it was brand-new.

Any and all help/advice is greatly appreciated.

sigh... back in my home town. you're just going to have to find other 98 ITRs with similar mileage. GL, buddy. this is one reason why i'm not rushing to go back home though you'd think irvine is super safe with all those cops rolling around. i guess they're parked now with the gas prices where they're at.

Damn, so sorry to hear. A nice stock 98..... Fawking sucks that we can't just enjoy these damn caRs without indigent retards jacking them.

GL with insurance, I can't even recall any recent 98s over 100k in clean condition that went for more than $10-11k. I hope I'm wrong....

Hope I'm not asking the obvious....but just to confirm, heR badge # was 98-0043 ? What was heR approximate mileage?

I'd PM this, but you're trial right now. I'm working on an ITR Registry project and people routinely PM me VINs to check if parts are hot. If you don't mind, you could email me heR VIN "doespike at yahoo com" and I'll keep an eye out. Plus if she's recovered and rebuilt, heR badge will be known to the next owner.

GL with everything and I hope she is recovered and the fuccks caught...

awful.

someone should really look into caR theft as a study. At this rate how many R's will be left by 2015...2020....so on. Just off the top of my head there have been 3 or 4 stolen R's just from members on HT within the past 1-2 months.

Yeah, and it's scary we only see one part of the ITR population. How many have been stolen and their history disappears like a fart in the wind....

* nods head * I'd like to see posted the registry on ganked ITRs, how many, where stolen and what year they were taken. This kind of info may be of some help to police, ins. claims and to know HOW MANY WE HAVE LEFT!

Unfortunately thieves making owning this care a nightmare-literally. You simply cannot own this car as a daily driver, or without a garage. You cannot own it without an quality aftermarket alarm, and I stress realtime GPS tracking(not LoJack).

OP- I'm very sorry to hear. Any updates? Ticks me off.

Too late for this one, but for everyone else - get your car appraised. That will include detail shots of all key features, and include any receipts for any mods done. If you ever need to make a claim, it is easier (they still want to get out of it) to prove the value of your car. Money well spent. On several of my cars I took the appraisal to the insurance company to make sure I had enough coverage before anything happens.
