is there anyway to tell how much a block has been decked?
is there a common amount of material removed if it is just being done to ensure a flat surface?
does decking effect timing like decking the head (retard the timing by i believe 1 deg per thousandth)?
im asking because, the sleeved block i bought had no record of how much material was taken off. but was told it had been done probably 2-3 times (once for sleeve install, and once prior)
what do you think im looking at here?

honda usually gives us about 3-4 circular indents on the block, depth mic them out to see where you stand and compare it to the oem deck height max. spec...its that simple
if the block does not have any more left then measure from the aluminum main cap portion to the top of the deck with a big enough mic depending on the block...

yeah there is definetly still material above the little gauges. the block is at my parents house so without a visual im having a hard time figuring out how i could measure the height difference between that tab and the deck.

You will need a depth micrometer to measure how much has been removed. Decking a block does throw off valve timing just like when milling a cylinder head. This is why it is important to degree your cams to the specs on the cam card. If you dont have a the right tool bring it by any machine shop and ask them if they could check it for you.
