2001 CRV rough idle....
Well I had a rough idle for about two month now, it happens when I am stopped at a light or anywhere I am stopped with the car in drive. It happens the worst when I warm up the car in the morning and put it in reverse, the idle drops very low and starts to go up and down until I put it in drive.
I took it to the dealer (warranty) and they said I needed to clean the fuel injectors and clean out the throttle body. I took it to a friend who is a tech for Honda, he did the service and the ran ran ok for two days but is now back to the same. I cleaned out the IACV really good and drove the car and it is still there.
I have replaced the dist cap and rotor, spark plugs, fuel filter, and PCV valve. I took the intake resonator off the one that sits on top of the intake manifold and I could see inside the intake manifold and I see no dirtyness at all. The throttle is clean!
So I am running out of ideas now, any of you guys experience the same thing? What did you do to resolve it?

I would suggest you check your valves. They tighten over time...When they get too tight idle suffers.

Your friend who is a tech just took you for a ride. I hope you didn't pay for that. Honda states in no uncertain terms NOT to do any sort of fuel injection service.
Like was stared above you should check your valve clearance.
You should probably not let your friend look at your car anymore

No, the dealer wanted to charge me for that service so I took it to him to do the service for me for a 12-pack of beer. Thanks I'll check that out!

This is a common issue on later 1st gen crv's. If it indeed is a valve issue then the only fix is to replace the head because you will not be able to fix the issue. If you can scan it then look at the map voltage. If it is under 1 volt like .8 or so this is also a sign that your valves have an issue.

You can do a valve job and it will run fine. I've done it many times.

yup that is common as putting gas in it lol . do a leak down test and see what the results are. seen to many burnt valves on these and stem's that are stretched .

This is standard procedure with nearly every case that goes into the dealership. You can get away with this for a while, but they will eventually recess too far until you cannot correct it with a valve adjust! Even B20's in this range that have had constant VA's still have this happen. It is a problem with the head! Nothing else!

The last one I did was 4 years ago and last I heard it's gone another 100K miles without even a valve adjustment.
