i gotta 91 hatch 4spd d15b1 ,the guy i bought it from gave me a head thats suppossed to be a d15 vtech head is there any way to tell if it is,no valve cover

 

Does thehead have a stamp number?

Usually i can tell by how close the spark holes are line up at. Closer to the intake manifold usually means it is non vtec. Closer to the exhaust manifold usually means it vtec.

 

yep what he said. its probably a z6 or y8 head if the spark plugs are across the center line of the head nearest the exhaust. If they are on the back of the motor nearest the intake manifold then its a non-vtec head.

 

Im not at home right know but how can i tell which is exhaust and which is intake ??and i will take a look and keep u guys updated thanks for the info

 

The exhaust is the one that melts your flesh off when you touch it. but seriously you cant tell just by looking The intake is on the back of the engine nearest the firewall, exhaust is in front. Its like this for all honda/acura engines basically, aside from the k-series engines which have the intake up front and the exhaust in the back

 

i can tell i just have the head its not on anything just the head no valve cover or anything to it

 

This is my valvecover off a JDM d15b head. If your head has the same placement as this then it should be vtec. Other heads have the same plug placement but they are non-vtec.... I think the Y7 is one of them.

 

true. forgot about that. basically if you have a vtec solenoid on the back passenger side of the head then it has vtec, if the solenoid isnt there, then its not a vtec head.

 

well the head has a vtec solenoid, so know my question can i take take the head and put the internals in my head and get the comprestion still??i really dont have the money to do a mini me

im not even sure what your asking but no. if you want a mini me swap you need to swap a z6 or y8 head onto your non-vtec bottom end that simple.
