Default BOOK RECOMMENDATION NEEDED

This winter I will be pulling/rebuilding/upgrading the engine/clutch in my '94 Accord, it has the F22 block. So far I have completed the restoration/upgrade of the entire suspension/brake systems.

I am a very good basic mechanic, 30+ years under hoods, but I haven't rebuilt an engine in many years, I used to work with largeblock V8's. I am finding much of the upgrade engine market for the I-4's is still somewhat uncharted territory.

So far I have decided on what eqpt./manufacturers I will be buying for the internals, but I need to "fine-tune" the design now for the cam/piston/valves/rods/porting so I can get the parts ordered.

I need a GOOD book that goes into depth in I4 cam/piston design theory so I can get the parts design finalized. The engine will be naturally aspirated, no boost, slight increase in compression, a DD non-racing engine.

I have looked at a few books, and been discouraged. Most discuss "bolt-ons" and general internal mods, but none I have found none that really go into cam/piston/porting/rod design for various applications, and NONE discuss cross-matching of design for the parts so they "work together". Most just have pictures of HP parts, and generally state what they can do for overall HP/torque gains, with zero info for final design. I checked EBAY/Amazon, and most of the book descriptions fall into this line.

Any info for a GOOD engine design book would be appreciated. I KNOW what the various parts will do, but I need more in-depth info for the "fine-tuning" of the internals before ordering. Thanks- SI

I am not aware of any published documentation that will explain/suggest mixing and matching internal parts. ALLOT of info is shared here on the forum, there are some extremely good(some of the best in the U.S.) engine builders here on H-T that we have the luxury of talking to. Search around and you might find what you're looking for

For manifold design (intake/exhaust), Theory of Engine Manifold Design: Wave Action Methods for IC Engines by Winterbone/Pearson (ISBN: 1860582095 ) is an excellent book.

As for internals... I don't have any specific text books to recommend, only a few SAE papers.
