So I'm new to the Honda scene and my 97 EK has a d16y7 and I'm lookin to run some boost. I was trying to find out a good kit and how many psi you all think I should run. Also any parts I should/ may need to upgrade to run boost, any info is helpful.

search a good ecu is a p28 they do have oiling issues with the y7s BUT if you get the right tuner it shouldnt be a problem take my y7 for example completely stock been boosting for over a year and a half now and its fine needed an oil change 6k miles ago but its still running hard. dyno said 193whp and 179wtq as long as you get the right tuner it really shouldnt be a problem. everything that has to do with the kit is up to you. If I were you I would look for quality used parts, not always the prettiest but by far the best. good luck.

Stock bottom end I wouldn't go much past 10psi. If you feel the need to increase the boost, get a map sensor and try it out. You will need a good standalone system, thats the best advice I can give. There are lots of kits and options for DIY turbos out there for the single cams. Greatest part has to be the fact that parts are a dime a dozen.

You can also seek a Y8 head and bolt it onto the Y7 bottom end. Y8 head flows a little better and gives you a **** poor version of Vtec which will help to add a few more ponies as well.

The y7 intake manifold uses a three wire idle air control valve as to where the obd1 ecu uses a two wire idle air control valve. A lot of our customers switch to a y8 manifold with a two wire iacv with a y7 turbo setup.

yes the y7 IM is **** I use a y8 but I do not use a IACV which probably explains my glich at 1500rpms but what ever as far as tuning goes find a good tuner nearest you and see what he wants you to do and not a dude that has tuned a couple cars but someone that has tuned a bunch. the most common are Crome, Crome pro, hondata, Oeistrich, etc. the better ones are Crome pro, hondata s300 and ectune you are going to want to try and get the best tune you can trust me on this one.

oh and if you are going to swap the head go with the z6 head if you want a better head.(y8 heads oiling system just is not as good as the z6)
