What octane in a stock DX hatch?
Does it matter what octane gas I put in my fairly stock 92 DX hatch? I swear I remember hearing somewhere that putting high octane gas in a stock engine can hurt it, but that doesn't make sense to me. Should I still put as high octane as I can buy in or does it matter?
Octane levels represent their abilities to protect your engine from detonation. That's why high-performance cars use only premium gas. I still use 87 in my Civic, since I still have the stock 1.5L engine. The only thing that's wrong with putting a higher octane gas in your tank, IMO, would be that it's a waste of money.

it's not a good idea to switch to a lower octane if you've been using high octane fuel for a while. you'll have engine pinging or somethig.

Switching from premium to regular will only benifit him not hurt him (or his engine). The money wasted on premium can be put to better use elsewhere.
