Default What is this part/missing part? (D16Z6)

I just recently bought this car, and was wondering what this weird bottle of stuff was. I'm thinking it's something to do with the power steering/lack of power steering in the car, but I wasn't 100% sure.

Is this a bad thing to have it the way it is like that? I don't mind not having power steering, but I eventually want to restore most of this car to stock looks. If I need to replace it, how hard would it be to fix?'

(It's the thing in the lower right of the first photo, behind the headlight on the right side of the engine bay)

you dont have power steering.
the pulley for it is gone.

but it might just be a catch can for the rest of the power steering fluid thats left in your rack.

it could also be the winshield wiper fluid solenoid.

i might be wrong.

Wow

That is certainly the PS line emptying into some sort of container, with a piece of burlap as a plug

No, but the reservoir is missing too.

No sir, that's not my work, it was like that when I bought the car. I figured something was amiss here, but I wasn't 100% sure. I don't mind not having the power steering, but could you or someone else possibly point me in the direction of a DIY to fix or replace what's missing?

Is replacing the power steering stuff terribly difficult to do?

shouldnt be running a power steering rack without the pump anyways, either swap the rack to a manual or replace the pump/bottle. BTW its sitting in the A/C dryer hole too.

I don't have A/C either, so that would make sense.

If I wanted to do power steering, would it be difficult from here?

, you can run the power steering rack without the pump, have a whole group of guys doin it including me, and there are no problems i've heard its not good...but i have no problems, just splice the two hoses together with the fluid in there and you would be fine

Wasn't there a guy selling plug kits for the power steering awhile back on here? I think his name was like Padawan or something like that.
