how come prelude require 91 octane or better?

Don't post, 'cuz you don't know.
It's because of the higher compression engines that Prelude's have, I fill it with 91 octane on my USDM h22 10:1 compression motor. That's only half of the reasoning behind the octane number, read up and you'll soon find out why.

Its because it a DOHC vtec with high comp. by putting in lower octane will cause the engine to ping and over time ruin it.
no cheaping out on gas. Get 91 or don't drive it cause you'll *** ur motor eventually. Lower octane I hear pulls your timing too, so performance wise your car will not like it. Lastly, apparently higher octane fuels burn cleaner leaving less buildup in your motor, thus allowing it to run "build up" free for longer.
Regular $3.99 Plus $4.05 Premium $4.15 FRESNO CALIFORNIA gas is going up the ***. so i what i do is put in Regular 2x then the 3rd time Premium and continue cycle just to flush out the motor. is that bad??

Maryland is also 3.75 for 91 at shell.[freak]ing gas prices, but i go premium all the time.Better than taking a chance messing your engine up

better for the "v-tec"(haha forgot the quotes) it makes it kick in faster and adds minimal hp so all ur pistons can engage or sum ****...haha yes that is definatley right!

higher octane makes the fuel burn slower.

Heptane is what gas is mostly made of, and is extremely volitile.
Octane is added to the heptane to make it more stable.
the higher the octane rating, the higher compression the gas can take before it burns.
If you put lower octane fuel in a high compression engine, you run the risk of premature ignition. This is bad.
You want the spark to ignite the fuel, so it burns and pushes the piston down.
If it lights too soon, you keep it from coming up, and then there's no power pushing it down.
high octane in high compression engines GOOD
Low octane in high compression engines BAD
cars that can take regular will almost run on dog **** and pure grain
poo-poo cocktail lol

How about this?
Because thats what they are tuned to run on......
Using Premium gas is what MFG'rs do to get the HIGHEST HP rating and fuel economy. Using 87-89 (in a vehicle tuned for 90+)will cause power loss and less fuel economy. I work for Acura and deal with this question all the freakin time.
Higher octane=less carbon=More Green+More Power

h23's use 91 and 93 octane only i have and h23 and one time i put 89 cuz i wasn't paying attention and the car would barely run so the next i had to empty the fuel tank and i fill it up with 93 octane and the car ran perfect.
