Either the VSS going out or the circuit board directly behind the speedometer mechanism is going out.

Yes its easy, its just bolted to the transmission with 2 bolts, simeply unplug the VSS, remove the 2 bolts, bolt up the new one and plug it in.

The whole sensor + gear is held onto the tranny by one 10mm bolt. The sensor is bolted to the bear with 2 bolts.

I've got a similar problem... The speedometer has been randomly quitting and working again for the past year or so. Now it has finally gone completely out and only works about 1/10th of the time. I put a new VSS in and still no go. I pulled the guage cluster and checked all connecters, still no go. Any ideas what else I can check???
