Default B20 vtec w/ B18C5 crank, gridle, oil pick up, and rods????

I'm in need of builders opinions about my issue here. My friend is giving me his whole crank sleeves B18C5 bottom end for free and my questions is:
1) Will this set up work for a DD car and run smoothly?
2) Is there ANY machining required to do this?
3) Is there ANY specs I would need to prep the block and/or the B18C5 internals to fit my B20B block?

Any help will be appreciated..THANKS!

If i understand your question correctly you are wanting to swap your b18 crank rods etc for your b20 counterparts.......what is your reasoning behind swapping the larger crank of your b20 for the smaller one found in the b18c5???? The only one i can think of is that your looking for a more rev friendly motor. Keep in mind your loosing displacement by doing that. You could use the block girdle and oil pick up....but i don't see why you would want to switch the crank for a shorter stroke......If i were you, id just take the b18 block and store it away somewhere and build the b20.....theres a pretty good thread outlining b20 vtec builds using stock sleeves....take a look at it. Theres also a thread that tells you how to build an LS/Vtec which you would probably want to take a look at also. Good luck.

Ninja edit #2: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1676914 <-----this is the how to build an ls/vtec, b20vtec motor.....

should be all you need to know.

So your saying I could use the girdle, oil pick up, and tray with no modifying or machining anything else on my B20 block?

yes.

There's really no reason to swap the bottom end of the B18C5 for a B20 block though IMO... if the B18C5 is sleeved then you can just bore it to B20 size...

wrong. its not as simple as just adding the parts. the ls mains will have to be modified in order to fit the girdle. the machining isn't too expensive, but, its in no way a plug-and-play addition. absolutely not. and yes, i do have a p72 girdle, pan, tray, p/u in my lsv shortblock.

my bad then... I've just seen lots of aftermarket girdles that say they work on 'any' b-seres and never saw any mention of machining the main bearing caps.

Thanks for the info

So do you think any import machine shop specialist could do the machining for me to fit the girdle and etc?

if i were you id call around to find out who the reputable machine shops are in your area, who maybe have done this type of work before.....as previously stated, it is not just a matter of "plug n play".......however its not extremely costly or complex either. Read the threads i posted, everything you need to know besides the block girdle is in them.

Why Not do it? i thought of it too, Its just a 84mm type r. BUT the block deck height is bigger on b20 so you might need taller rods or you will have low comp.

Youll def need some machiene work though

Its really not worth the trouble though! Good exsperiance though

you will need to get the machine shop to make sure the main caps will properly mate to the block if you use main caps not originally from the block. The machine shop can help you get the ITR main caps on the B20 block without problems if you really want. Honestly I would just use the B20 main caps.

If you are not road racing the motor, you don't need a girdle setup.
Run the factory b20 rotating assembly (crank/main caps) & you will be fine.
