Mine goes up slow after a re-fill.

It is not good to run your gas tank empty. Who knows what crap might be in the bottom of your tank. I usually fill up at 1/4

Gas light can come on anywhere between 2 to 4 gallons remaining in the tank. It also goes on and off as the fuel sloshes around and moves the floater thingy on the gauge sending unit. When you turn right the floater goes down and makes the light come on. When you turn left, it will go back up and make the light go out.

I try to make mostly left turns only when I get low on gas.

mine goes up when i make wide left turns or when the street is slanted downhill towards the houses.

yea cuz the gauge sender is on the right side of the tank, so when the car tilts to the right or turns to the left (centrifugal force to the right) it makes the float go higher.
