Default help me decide

ok so here it is. i want to learn how to build motors.

i have two choices right now

gs/ls integra auto at an auction (would manual swap)

integra with bad b16 thinking of buying just a shell

i want to rebuild the motor with forged pistons, rods and arp head studs and cometic headgaskets or stock
then boost it with ebay turbo kit only i would replace that turbo with name brand as soon as i get money, also would be tuning with aem ems or apexi pfc or emanage ultimate. plan is to know how to build motors in general and have a 5psi car. i would up the boost once i get pump and injectors and all.

budget is small. keep suggestions cheap and good for the money.
also be descriptive because i don't know much about hondas (i have a swaped impreza coupe)

so tell me what parts i would need and what it would cost me roughly and what tranny/motor should i use if i get the shell and maybe what car that comes in. please keep price low

thanks

If you don't have the $$$$$ to buy decent parts, just save, save, save. No sense in buying two turbo kits. Wait untill you have the money to buy everything at once. Might as well do it while it's all apart.

i understand why people would say no to an ebay turbo, but the kit? piping is piping i would think. an intercooler is an intercooler. i know a few people with an ebay kit less turbo that run pretty damn decent. the turbo is what i would worry about. but the piping is regular piping. the oil lines are oil lines. and since his budget is small, i think i'd do the same as he is if i were in his shoes. the ssautochrome turbo is junk because the housing is supposedly glued together and when experiencing high heat is known to melt and split the housing and explode. if your budget is low try looking for an intercooler kit and all the piping, and get a turbo from a different manufacturer. just my .02

great. atleast someone knows what i am trying to say. no need to build it with name brand expensive cars. i want to practice tuning and building motors. i will probably get turbo from freightliner sprinter (garret gt22r) and ebay turbo kit. bad turbo wont brake the motor. i drove 200 miles on siezed turbo on my subaru. yea i have a 2.5rs 2dr swaped, standalone burns out in 2dn gear on the roll. so not really looking for something crazy fast yet

DOnt ever buy ebay turbos. They seem like a great deal but it is not worth it. You will be replacing parts that dont work with good parts that you will have to buy that are expensive but worth it. If your going to go turbo, do it well the first time around. Here is a link to Ti users experiance

Hopefully you change your mind on ebay turbos.
If your going turbo I recomend Synapse

go to the wreckers and go find a cheap as **** motor (ie non vtec d15 or b18) slowly take it apart understand all of it, then take all your measurements and rebuild it to OE spec.. or just get a job at a engine builders

for sure get the wrecker, you could probably even save the b16 and slap some type-r stuff on it.

i'm in the process of gather up my first build, i have an auto teg right now so i'm thinking about doing the jdm auto gsr swap with high comp pistons, or a crvtec with b16 head 5speed swap

good luck bro, hope you make the right choice for you.
