OK, a tech question for you bishes.
Lemme start the story from the beginning, some of you will probably laugh at my misfortune
On friday I was speaking with my friend at the shop, asking about getting a new exhaust on the daily, as the current one is rotted and making farty noises. he wasn't able to get one by saturday, so why not bring the R down instead and get the finishing touches done to the A/C and have it serviced before the winter.
but the battery is totally rogered...
jump start it, once it's going the alternator will feed the motor.
hmmm, OK I says.
So, I try and jump it off a spare battery I have, nothing. I take the ground off the battery in the car, put the ground from the battery onto the earth strap coming off the head, booya, we have liftoff.
so I reconnect the ground to the battery in the car, disconnect the spare and off I go.
headed out and got some fuel, didn't turn it off as I knew I wouldn't be able to start again, then started heading to the main road that'll take me down to London and the shop.
just approaching a roundabout, slowing down and *death*
motor cuts out, no power to restart.
so, I jump out the car and start pushing it over this roundabout to a different petrol station, waving at the cars behind me to stay back as obviously my maneoverability is somewhat less than that of normal.
yet the retards still insist on driving around me.
anyway, I get it over the roundabout, into the petrol station and up the incline into the parking bays.
right, so I have to run home, get the daily, bring the jump leads and the spare battery and get her going again.
****, the windows are both down and there isn't even enough power to bring them up 1"
so, I'm running down the road with my steering wheel in hand, realising how out of shape I am and in 30mins or so I get back and retrieve the daily.
drive back and *attempt* to jump start it. nothing, zero, zip.
*monkey sigh*
so I phone my friend at Honda that I had ordered a new battery from and who had it with him, he was going to bring it to the shop for me.
"errr, can you bring me the battery please?"
the hero that he is, he drove 90mins and brought me the battery, hooked it up and it fired first time, first thing I did was roll the windows up.
as a partial thank you I let him drive the R back to my place while I dropped off the daily and then drive it back to his Lexus IS200 at the garage. he loved it
"this motor has so much more grunt than a regular Type-R"
anyway, with that issue resolved and me feeling worn out, we drive to the shop so the R can be serviced and have the A/C finished.
a couple of miles from the shop, this god-awful whiney, scraping sound starts from my engine somewhere, sounds like a supercharger with a knackered bearing.
I thought my PS pump had [freak]ed up as it was RPM dependant.
get to the shop and have a look, the A/C tension pulley thing had come off and was resting on top of the main crank pulley, and had sawed a little notch into the A/C pulley. facking awesome.
so when I get there I say "shall I start draining the oil?"
"oh, I forgot you were coming, I used the last of the fluids I had in that black EP3"
thanks
now for the tech.
the entire A/C system is installed, fuses and relays are in, the system is charged and when the button is pressed it lights up.
BUT, the compressor isn't kicking in. for some reason it isn't getting power???
after checking everything over, we wondered if it was because I am missing 2 wires coming from the car to the A/C harness.
there is a plug on my passenger side that the A/C harness clips into, but the car harness only has 4 wires whereas the A/C has 8??
2 of the wires we know are from the outside temperature sensor that is used if you have a climate control, but that isn't necessary, but we don't know what the last 2 wires are that go into the plug.
I can get pictures if necessary of the bit that I mean.
any help would be greatly appreciated to help offset what was a crappy day
cliff notes: car broke down, A/C isn't working.

Sounds like you had a headache of a day. Sorry to hear Geoff, but it's almost 1230am here. Tired from work so can't really help.
wish i could help but my R never had da a/c. fabulous story though, i can only imagine the level of frustration at this point
. I'd be frackin' choked.
dropping werdz like "rogered" and "knackered" paint a good picture

^same question over here. eesh, i don't even know if i have that plug as well as i don't recall one behind the windshield fluid reservoir. i'm going to have to check. are you sure there are no leaks in the lines? also, there is an A/C compressor clutch switch that's in the line... if you stand in front of the car and bend over the front of the engine, it's on the line from the A/C compressor. from the little of A/C that i know, it acts as an off/off switch to protect the compressor in case there's not enough pressure in the line. do you have the switch? is it in good working condition? also, you can take the plug out near the compressor and stick a paperclip into the socket to bypass the switch and see if the compressor kicks on. i've had my share of a/c issues in my gsr daily. too bad i don't have it anymore
gosh, i loved that car.

I don't suppose you could give me a little bit more info on where to find this switch?

i know that when i put ac back in my car i forgot the single wire plug that plugs in to the compressor to engage and disengage the clutch!!! and had almost the same problem!!
this wire should be easy to spot on or near the top of the compressor its self!!
hope this helps!! [B]

I checked and that plug was indeed securely in.
I put a jump lead (paperclip) across the compressor clutch relay as instructed in the Helms, and the compressor clutch didn't engage still, so there isn't any power going to that wire?
seems as if there is a gap in the wiring between the relay in the under-bonnet fusebox and the A/C harness plug that will give the compressor the power it needs...

LMAO at pic of lanky-****** running down the road with steering wheel in hand huffin' and a puffin'!
Ever see the Fawlty Towers episode where Basils' car craps out on him and he goes mental?
Sorry tart, you knows we all lubs you... that's jus' some funny sh*t!

I had the Monty Python theme music playing in my head while I read that. Very entertaining.

you know, it wasn't far off that.
I went out and bought a multi-meter after work, tested the 4 wires on the car harness that the A/C harness plugs into, and none of them are providing 12v when the A/C is switched on.
the compressor clutch relay is getting a 14.4v supply.
I just think Honda didn't [freak]ing bother putting the wire in the main harness for the compressor clutch and the fan switch
someone hold me

Good stuff Erik, now Geoff...
1. Print Eriks wiring diagram.
2.Pull wire from comp. clutch, attach voltmeter to wire and chasis grnd. start car and turn on A.C. No volts?
3. Pull comp relay and Jump 12V+ to terminals 2 & 4, grnd to 3 and voltmeter to 1 & grnd. If relay is good,
4. With ign. & A.C. on and check for volts at YEL/WHT wire of pressure switch, if yes check at BLU/RED of switch, if no, bad switch or low refrig. charge.
5. If everything checks out okay so far, ground out both radiator fan relay contact 4 (GRN wire) and condenser fan relay contact 3 (BLU/YEL wire) and if A.C. comes on, you may have a bum ECM, a bad A.C. diode, or the wiring harness is knackered and you will have to trace out everything on either side of the ECM.

aaah, thank you!
there seems to be 2 missing wires on the main harness between the under "hood" fuse box between the compressor clutch relay and the condensor fan relay, and the A/C wire harness connector

That would do it. The ECM is in there to monitor volts/current on fan circuits and prevent the comp. relay from closing unless both fans circuits are functional.
