Default help: power steering

can i take off my power steering just by cutting off the belt? or do i have to remove the pulleys to?

why dont you remove the belt instead of cutting it

well....cutting it is my first option since i aint got the muscle to pull it off. and is it okay to just leave the pulleys or will they fly off when im driving? and does the same go for the a/c belt too?

You don't need muscle, you need brains. Its pretty easy to loosen it up to remove the belt.

ok but you guys didnt answer the most import question of all...

is it ok to leave the pulleys on after i removed the a/c belt and power steering belt?

Think real hard about this one for a minute. If you take the belt off, nothing is spinning the pump. If you take the pulley off, nothing is spinning the pump.

ok smart guy... if i take off the belt, the pulley is still there. if i take off the pulley nothing happens.

guys, i just want a straight answer... is it safe to removed the belt only and have the pulley still on?

Yes it is safe but what is the reason??? you are still going to have the weight of the pulleys and are just going to have a harder time driving with no power steering, the only reason to remove it is if it is leaking from the rack n pinion or something...
