Default Cat Converter

Is there any difference in quality of Cat Converters? I was reading a tread and they recommended a Magnaflow one on Ebay. Any help would be appreciated. I might need another one and dont want to send the 600 for OEM. I have a 5th Gen. My cell light just came on and I havent trouble shot it yet but will tonight.

aftermarket cats generally don't carry the sasme quality as oem....but that doesn't mean they don't work. i have sold/installed magnaflow's high flow cats with great sound and success @ the smog facility. when i put on a new cat on mine, it will be aftermarket, not OEM. too much money for something i could care less about.

also, many aftermarket cats are less restrictive than their OEM counterparts.

When combined with a better intake system and better exhaust, this can net a small HP gain.

Thanks for the response, I am wondering if its worth it to get an aftermarket or would it be better to just get OEM. I dont want to buy another one in a couple of years.

Magnaflow makes a hi-flow cat that flows very well. They go for under $200 Thats what I have.

Have you modified your Lude at all? Nothing wrong with the Magnaflow hi flow cat even if your car is stock.

The Magnaflow/Carsound high-flow cat goes for ~$50. Get it and be done.

No it's not but I have yet to come across a cop who gets down under your car to check your cat lol. The only problem you might have is passing smog but it should be alright. Some people pass with high-flow cats, some dont.

HAHAHA funny you say that! I have had the majority of my friends get pulled over and the CHP or police called a mechanic in to examine the car. I hope it doesnt happen to me (knock on wood).

Magnaflow does make California CARB compliant cats, but they are almost as expensive as stock (although I would suspect they flow better). So if it's something you're really concerned about, you can still be CARB compliant and never have to worry about it.
