This has bothered me for a long time since I keep seeing non-vtec 5th gens (LX) with tachs that have a redline (not rev limit) of 6,400 or something. Mine for some reason shows a redline of 7,200 rpm and was wondering if any 5th gen LX's ever came with 7,200 rpm with a D15B7 engine in it. Here is my tach. I know I have the white indiglo guages but if I pull them out, the stock guages are EXACTLY the same as my indiglo guages which also showed a 7,200 rpm redline. My rev limit/cutoff is at 6,800 like normal for a non-vtec engine.

If my cluster was swapped, this makes me really wonder about my real mileage. According to carfax the mileage seems to go in order, but the car was in a wreck and hadn't been driven for YEARS so there was a gap from 35,000 miles then jumps to 76,000 miles. I bought the car with 76,000 miles in 2002. I driven double the mileage since I've had it. Could my cluster have been swapped out for an EX cluster by someone else by any chance? EX cluster and LX cluster I would assume are exactly the same except for the redlines.

Someone could have just put the gauge faces (from an EX) on. If you remove the tach face, you could have a redline of 6500 rpms.

 

There was only one face on it when I installed the indiglo face. Right now I have the white guage face sitting on top of the original face. This car was owned by a priest by the way. The wreck that this car had caused my car to have a salvage title. My front right end was hit. The passenger door isn't even from this car. It's from a green civic (noticed when I removed my door panel)

So NO automatic 1992 Civic LX 4-door came with a 7,200 redline? The car is manual now (not that it matters for this topic anyway)

 

So, original face has a 7200 rpm redline? Then the cluster isn't stock.

Argh that's what I was afraid of. Now that just makes me question the mileage. Carfax doesn't indicate any foul play with the odometer. I'm going to try to look up my carfax report and read the dates again. All I remembered is that the car had a 35,000 mile to 76,000 mile jump. The 76,000 entry is when I bought the car.
