?? 97 H22A p13 stamped - Open or Closed deck ??
I bought a jdm h22a a couple months ago, and I am still wondering whether or not it is open or closed deck block.
Above the header is a circle stamped on the block that has 97 in it. And on the spark plug wires they say 1997.
But on the intake mani and maybe on the head it says P13. I see that the P13 was used on the 97 SH. I am also under the conception that the closed deck is 92-96.
Questions: was the 97 SH h22 with P13 ECU open deck?
And what kind of block do I have.
Is it possible to lookup your block serial number some how and get information.

Thanks alot, this helps. I also notice my block number isnt too far off from yours...3044708..
now i wonder if 97 was the last closed block year in japan or all jdms h22a's are closed deck.. anyways at least mine should be closed deck.

All SH and Type-S blocks are open-deck. They use P5P ecu's.
Dunno what to tell you about your block. I'm not exactly sure which year JDM longblocks are imported because apart from Type-S, EuroR and H23a engines all of them I've seen are closed-deck.
It wouldn't make any sense that Honda would cast open and close-deck blocks simultaneously. It's possible that the Japanese market got open-deck blocks part-way through the 97 model year.

This is information pulled from old ht threads, so maybe there is a typo about the SH.

The 97 SH head has P13 code. I was correcting your op of 97 SH w/ P13 ecu. The P13 ecu was used 92-95.

Someone care to explain why the 97 SH would have a different head than the 97 base if they are the same from 98+ (and why it would have the same head as 93-96). I thought the H22a4 had a better flowing head than the a1's; so does my '97 SH have a sub-optimal head compared to other 5th gens?
Who knows why and it there's really a difference. There's three locations the heads potential identity can be: middle timing cover label, stamp on the head and parts catalog. They all don't always agree though. Look at the post before last.
