If the TPMS light is on, can the VSA be turned off? I am interested in running a spare set of wheels and tires for auto-x, but if it means I have to live with the VSA on, then I might rethink the whole proposition. The tire pressure sensors are like $100 each, so I don't want to get a new set just for my spare wheels. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I posted this same question in the Autocross/Roadrace forum and got a big, fat goose egg for responses. Surely some of us FG2/FA5 guys actually take our cars to events, no?

 

I think the manual says you can't.

 

Did the 08's get the Tire pressure sensor?

I have the Technical Service Manual ordered it and should be here in a week so I'll read up on this for you. I have tracked my 07 Si at Portland International Raceways Road Course with aftermarket wheels and tires and never had any problems with turning the VSA off or getting any abnormal alarms/warnings.

I say go for it.

tpms and the vsa have no connection. you can turn the vsa on and off anytime you want. tpms is another issue. only 08 civics got those. lol. suckas. j/k. you don't have to get the tpms sensors, but the light will stay on. if that doesn't bother you then proceed.

the light turning off and on doesnt matter, VSA will not be turned off. Its in the manual

 

I can tell you for a fact that if the TPMS light is on you cannot turn off the VSA. It is a safety feature of the vehicle.

 

TPMS sensors are not $100, you can get them for $50 each.

Tell him again that TPMS has no connection to VSA:

 

even though u can push the vsa off button and the light comes on, vsa is still active.

I have rsx type s wheels on my 08 Si and my "tpms" light is on and my vsa isn't always on and neither is my other friends 08 si. You can spin the tires and launch you car all day long with no cut out of power.

I'm in the same boat as the OP with the autocross season fast approaching. So, there are conflicting options in this thread.

Obviously, a $1500 set of race wheels & tires is useless in terms of putting power down if the VSA is going to be interfering.

Any more concrete info on this from autocrossers or track warriors?

make a little tube out of PVC pipe, seal both ends with a stem/tpms sensor in one end and then pressurize it to the proper PSI and there ya go. keep it in the trunk..

 

I know for an absolute 100% fact that no matter how you interpret the manual, or what it says, you can turn the VSA off, even when the TPMS light is on.

Last winter, I got new tires, and the STS worker broke one of my TPMS sensors when mounting the new tires. I couldn't get back to have it fixed for a couple weeks so I was driving around for a while with my TPMS light on. I have a long pretty steep gravel driveway. When it snows, and I haven't had a chance to clear the driveway it gets pretty slippery. Well a couple times, the VSA would kick on and bog me down, stalling my momentum. So, I'd just hit the VSA button, allowing wheels to spin a little and the car would pull right up my driveway.

 

I can also vouch for what fiji says. I have found that if just the letters "tpms" is on you can turn vsa on or off. These letters come on when you swap wheels that have no sensors in them. But if you have the low pressure warning indicator on then you cannot turn off vsa.

I have an 08 SI sedan and I light up the tires easily and regularly when my "tpms" light is on but my pressure light is not on.

Wait you got me confused now. Your previous post said vsa cannot be deactivated but your video demonstrates otherwise?

my cousin works at a honda dealer actually i bought the car from him. n i asked him and he said vsa and tpms has nothing to do with one another..and you can still turn the vsa on or off.....screw the manual lol we are the manual...actually im the owner n my cousins name is manual lol....so there you have it
