Default b16 na

hey whats up guys, i was wanting some opinions on something, hopefully get some feedback on this. i have a mildly built 1st gen b16 in a crx and my question has to do with my exhaust. here is my exact setup, sorry if im a little too detailed for such a simple question.

pnp type r head
s2 pro1 cams
crower valve springs/retainers
aebs IM+ 65mm TB/ hondata IM gasket
hytech rep. headers (smsp not installed yet)
arp headstuds, rodbolts
bpi intake
hondata s300

decent setup for now until i have time to do a real engine setup, and no dynos but im predicting i have atleast 190-200 whp, i could be wrong someone tell me if i am

anyways my question is, as of right now i have a 2.5" kteller with a big *** hi-power muffler and magnaflow res., and it doesnt sound bad or ricey n ****, but kinda been wanting to get the exhaust a little quieter, or atleast considering it. ive really had my eye on the rsr exmag cuz i just kno its gonna sound great and quiet no rasp no rice. only problem is the piping diameter (2.36) is smaller than my current catback. my question finally, is you guys think it would significantly hinder my performance on my current setup or similar setup? would the drop in power be worth the quieter exhaust? or is it just going to hurt hp too much? what do you guys think? thanks for the help!

im running the rsr exmag its amazing sounds like a fully built motor should sound and i still made 226whp on it but it definatly chokes it a lil but im actually putting an electronic cuttoff on it when i go to retune it in a couple weeks. i would say get it and put an electronic cutoff on it if you think it will choke it but idk as for your motor you running a b16 bottom end? stock? no tune? i wouldnt say your up around 200whp yet guy but keep trying...

forgot to mention i just got a base conservative tune right now, cams arent tuned in yet due to my idiot *** misplacing a brand new set of aem cam gears, so i think imma give up lookin for em n just purchase a new set lol.

maybe i overshot it sum, 180-195 whp is more like it lol, but i know im definitely within 15-20 whp of 200whp but i could still be wrong. i know with those cams tuned it ill definitely be around that 200-210 mark. only think on bottom end is rodbolts. i curse myself for not throwing in atleast sum p30s or something.

ive also considered thermal cl catback too, its 2.5" right? ive heard a few clips of it and it seems not as clean as the rsr one. but id also like to hear some opinions bout that system too.

should i use a toda header instead? ive read a few posts that the toda headers work better on b16s compared to long tube headers (hytech, smsp). can anyone shed some more light on that?

your motor's going to blowup if you decrease your exhaust diameter due to increased backpressure and you'll notice a loss of close to 50hp. i'm just messin. this is john, btw.

back on topic. there's sort of a catch22 in your situation where you want the most power with the least amount of sound. there are a couple of guys in mobile who are running 3'' catless exhausts in their n/a b,k-series and they're pretty much set in stone that 3'' is the way to go with dynosheets to back it up.....BUT they sound like crap. the e-cutout is a great idea, but will also sound like crap if you happen to choose to do a redlight duel with someone. also, something i'm not certain about is if you'll have to have a different tune for open dump vs a tune for regular driving. maybe Dirtygsr99 will shed some light on that subject when he gets his car tuned with the cutout.

my opinion, the powerloss will be miniscule if you're going from 2.5'' to 2.35 with the exmag.

Toda > anything else for 1-6's. Bisi might have something to say about this, but I have yet to see proof. Randy also claims that he can "beat" it, but again...no proof.

thats pretty much what information i was looking for right there, thanks. to sum up what this guy said, of course u cant achieve max power, but with a relatively low hp output, only slight losses are hopefully expected with smaller catbacks. and with larger diam. piping its gonna sound like **** no matter what, all motor that is.

I doubt that you will feel a significant loss. When I bought my car it had a 2.5in exhaust and I just recently put a RSR Exmag on my car with a 4-2-1 header and my car feels smoother with the smaller diameter exhaust. I assume that the slight decrease in exhaust diameter helped provide a health amount of back pressure that in turn helped exhaust flow velocity. I know I picked the wrong header but I did so knowing that I will one day go GSR.

I forgot to add that in consensus with clean rice teh best header for a 1.6L is the Toda until otherwise proven on a dyno.
