Default B series Thrust Washer question (1st engine build)

I am rebuilding my first motor. Just a stock B18b. I had the block, and crank checked and cleaned up by a machine shop. Everything checked out fine. I installed the Main bearings, and thrust washers (crank of course) last night. I used all OEM bearings, and torqued down to spec in 2 stages 22ft lb, then 56ft lb and in the correct order.

Probably a really silly question, but are the thrust washers supposed to move around? Like rotating with the crank a little bit. I can hear it stop at the main cap. Just making sure it is normal before I continue. TIA

Umm I do remember mine were moving around will installing them.

Isnt there groves in the main cap to hold them in place i dont remember?

I think the main cap is wider to hold them in place. I am pretty sure it is normal since everything was within spec. I just don't want to go any further until some one more experienced can confirm this for me. Basically building this one just for experience.

They're not supposed to rotate around with the crank. If you look carefully the main cap holds them both in place

Let me explain a little better. They are not rotating 360 deg around with crank. They rotate up until they hit the main cap.

That is a nasty crank. Nice job getting it polished and cleaned. With that work your TW's are the last of your problems.

I think the streaks are just oil; they correspond to the tangs and oiling grooves on the bearings.

Hmm, that might be an ingenious design not to have it flush. Wonder why folks? :rhetorical tone:

Internet gurus, chime in. On your marks, get set, blow......

lol ok so it is normal. I would love to know why they are designed that way if you don't mind.

When torqueing down the main cap, you will not distort the trust bearing if it's made to come up a bit short?

is it because its suppose to have a little play in it?? maybe when u engage the clutch the crank gets pushed over and makes contact with the thrust washer?? all i know is that, the crank and the main caps keeps it in their place lol

This is why I continue to browse H-T years after I sold my Honda. If I can weed through all the BS I can still learn a thing or two.
