Default 01 H22A4 OBD2 > JDM H22A1 OBDI

Please confirm what I need to do for this swap? I don't think the shop doing the swap is aware of the differences between the engines.

The replacement JDM engine came with the following:
ENGINE BLOCK
5 SPEED FWD LSD TRANSMISSION
INTAKE MANIFOLD
EXHAUST MANIFOLD
FUEL RAIL
THROTTLE BODY
VTEC SOLENOID
DISTRIBUTOR
ALTERNATOR
AC COMPRESSOR
POWER STEERING
INJECCTORS
SPARKPLUGS
OIL PAN
VALVE COVER
USED MIDSHAFTS
ECU
WIRE HARNESSES

and I purchased a OBD2b to OBDI conversion harness.

I have not been able to find a solid thread relating to this swap, but lots of talk back and forth with no details.

Can someone PLEASE tell me what I need to do for this swap?

Can they just drop this block/tranny in and change out the ECU? or is there more?

Engine was delivered couple hours ago, need to know asap!

I did find this archived thread:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2084037

but is that all required if I use the obdi ECU ??

I've been through that link, and I see conflicts between what people are saying.

From what I got from that, you put a JDM h22 in, but kept your ECU(etc) ODBII(2)

What I dont understand with your post is why would I use all the OBDII(2) parts when I'm converting to OBDI(1)??

i used an OBDI ecu.

you can't use the OBDI engine harness in conjunction with the OBDII subharness (which is what the ecu connects to). its a complete mess to get that working properly and you have to be fluent with how the complete electrical system is ran on the car. I've mapped it out before, it is not fun whatsoever.

In order to use all OBDI components with the OBDII engine harness, you would need to make a conversion harness for the crank sensor on the oil pump and the crank sensor on the distributor.

http://bbmoto.net/wiki/index.p...rsion

its much easier and simplified with less worry to convert the engine to make it OBDII compliant and run a conversion harness to the OBDI ecu.

Thank you for the clarification! Greatly appreciated.

Here I was thinking I was getting a good fix by doin this swap, but now I think I just shot myself in the foot.

x2 after much thought before and during my swap i realized this as well. not to mention it would keep those pesky emissions people off my back. wiring gets messy and it's sooooo much easier to simply bolt on your old components to your new motor. everything will plug in perfectly. iirc you need to swap IM, a/c, p/s, alt, CKP sensor W/ THE USDM SPROCKET. i made the mistake of listening to my friend about using the JDM one and the car wouldn't turn over. the ckp sensor needs it to read the teeth. if i missed anything someone correct me. good luck

Yeah. Don't be fooled by the tempting JDM lightweight balancer shaft sprocket

If you go with the OBD1/JDM OBD2 style of CKP/TDC the OBD2 US ECM will not like it, although it does seem to run.

again, thank you! I'm feeling much better with this confirmation.

so, I can use this ODB1 ecu with the conversion harness but use the obd2 components?

in your thread title you have jdm h22a1 there is no jdm h22a1 its only h22a no number so if you bought a jdm h22a1 you got screwed over

or you can just run your obd2 ecu w/o the harness if need be. then you basically have my setup.

Which is handy for cases when you need to, such as when you will discover that the conversion harness you bought doesn't work with your car.

or you need to go to emissions.
