Default GS-R rims upkeep suggestions

the local mechanic that i usually bring my car to for maintenance work did a lousy job of taking care of my rims each time he does a rotation. the biggest offense was scratching up the front of my blade rims. either he unknowingly put them face down on the floor or it slipped out of his hands, the damage was done.

over the last 7k miles, the scratched area has gotten progressively white. not sure why this is. in any case, is there a way to clean this up and protect it? clear coat protectant and/or chrome touch up paint? also, i usually wash them with a sponge and the soapy water (Meguiar's car soap) after washing my car.

TIA

I have the same problem with my rims and unfortunately I have not found a way to repare the scrapes on them. I think it is something we are just going to have to live with.

wash the wheels with a good quality car soap, then dry them and apply a coat of car wax, meguiars or mothers cleaner wax is good. after that get some clear nail polish and very lightly apply on the scratch, apply about 3 *thin* coats, and let each coat dry.

the scratch should be safe from rust and oxidation for a while. but you might want to wax teh wheels every 2 weeks, keeps them shiney and looking like new and it also allows you to wash the brakedust off easily

I would take it back to the SOB that scratched the rim man. This shouldn't be your problem since you weren't the one who did it in the first place. Take your car back to the mechanic and tell him you need to know what he intends to do about it...I'm sure the guy has a nice insurance policy.

Like I always say. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

Thanks, J
