powder coating is much tougher finish thus used by wheel manufacturers more often. it uses a much different technique to create a durable finish.
painting is not bad but will chip and scratch much easiers. but it can also be done very well and will last you few years.

I powdercoated my rims, and I have no problems so far (been almost a year). Finish is great, look as good as the day they were done.

I'm going to be using an acrlyic based enmail paint from PPG for my wheels. I've done it before on a friends wheels and he's had to chips or damage for the past 3 yrs..

The process of powdercoating is a lot more durable than paint. You generally sanblast or strip off all of the old finish. then you spray the piece with statciallly charged colored powder or powders. Once you're done with coating the object in powdercoat, you cook it for about 400° for roughly 15-20 minutes. It "melts" the powder-coat, kinda like a glaze for ceramic pots.

I painted mine with high temp paint it is a lot of work to do it right, but if I was gonna do it again I would just get them powder coated it will last longer.

the high heat paint will not last nor look good after a while. i did my Hx rims with that and alot of clear let it dry for like a few days then mounted the tires then slaped them on my hatch. well after it rained and they got all dusty and now the finish looks dull. o well i got the materials for free so it's koo. i'll jus redo them with another type if paint.
